Ask Jigsaw: Scared to talk in person

I want to get help as i know i don’t have healthy mental health but i’m scared to talk in person

Hi Elliemax,

Thank you for your question. Reaching out for support is sometimes a difficult steps and can be confusing. However once that step is taken things can start to get better.

Some people find it easier to start by accessing services online or over the phone.

Being scared to talk in person is actually not unusual. Some people find it easier to start by accessing services online or over the phone, so they can see what that feels like to speak about what’s going on. If it helps, you can write down in advance some of the things you would like help with or would like to say.

You can now access text based or phone based support with trained Jigsaw staff via Jigsaw Online here. This can sometimes be enough, or can be the first step towards talking to someone face to face.

It can be a lonely place at the beginning so it may be of help to read about how other people started, what worked for them. For example, you can watch Lauren’s story here.

I hope that this helps with your questions, please feel free to reach out to us with other questions you may have.

Best Wishes,
